Phish and Bitkid strike back on the substructure of a Paris based label quoted several times in our pages. With a lot of humour (let's check their website), the two Austrians deliver four completely serious unreleased cuts made of sound collages, extreme sampling and devastating tempos. On the flip, "California" combines with savoir faire the Beach Boys surf music to a boosted breakbeat rhythmic. It is funny and striking just like "Swingit", a kind of jazz a la Cotton Club passed to an electronic shredder. On the reverse, "Viva" and "Jailhouse" introduce two slaughters taken from Elvis repertory in unrestrained and alienating versions. Amazing! www.breakinstevens.com Nexus 6, 14/07/2005
