Markantonio - Steady Boy EP - Analytic Trail 06
Sixth release on his own label with three groovy tracks. A1 is funky and driving, with a couple of nice filtered breaks. B1 - excellent Carola-like piano summer tune. It has an amazingly funky bassline which gets noticed straight away. Definitely a winner. B2 is harder, without any doubt, still retaining the funky groove. A lot of ride cymbals and a filtered breakdown. Great stuff. Italian funky techno IS an institution. Can't get enough of it! www.analytictrail.net www.elpmedien.com Lesha, 11/05/2004

V/A – Brachial 03 | |
After XOX, Kazumi, Elektrogrill and Simple Muzik, here comes Brachial, the last label launched by German artist Brixton (Drop Bass, U-turn, Slavery). Its artistic line? To publish demos from pornostarmusic.com forum subscribed artists. For this third release, Brainshaker aka Robert Natus under moniker and Holzplatten mastermind himself deliver two feverish, powerful and old school ravey cuts that will spread severe trauma on the dancefloor. A hot and brilliant one side EP! www.pornostarmusic.com Nexus 6, 11/05/2004

V/A – Chica Disco Vol.2 mixed by DJ Sin Plomo – Chica Discos 05
This second mix published by Chica Discos combines many musical colours: house club hits (with tribal, ragga or trancy influences), deeper tunes or also some electro retro 80s tracks. Too "overground" for me despite some nice titles. www.chica-discos.com Ludo, 10/05/2004

Sir Real – Boingers – [k]rack-Troni[k] 04
At last, after a long break, [k]rack-Troni[k] goes on with vinyl outputs. The opportunity for its owner, UK Neil Spragg to deliver with "Boingers" a fearsome electro breaks track based on powerful rhythm, acid bassline and funky gloomy strings. 8-Bit Apocalypse on the flip converts the original cut into a furious dancefloor piece, full of effects, while Ed2000 teamed up with Dangerous Drums German label partner Circuit Breaker offer a wonderful dark and mental remix. Although the three versions are extremely different each other, this brilliant 12'' will satisfy the more fussy tastes! www.kracktronik.co.uk Nexus 6, 07/05/2004

Philip Braunstein - Soul Murder EP - GFR1212
Absolutely great release on the Swedish imprint from a Brazilian producer - Braunstein is the name you're going to remember. A1 track (Soul Murder) is a blend of piano, layered all throughout the track, and a laid back funky rhythm. A2 (Beautiful Body) combines a driving groove and male vocal samples along a looped pad in the last half. B-side: this is more like it :) B1 (7th Street) - fantastic build up from a groovy, pumping rhythm to an excellent break. Amazing stuff! B2 (Scream and Pain) is a broken beat, tribal techno with some great mystical sounds, kind of new "Anaconda". Perfect! www.backbone-digital.com Lesha, 06/05/2004

Nice – Clubby brain – Soulsoleil 01
First EP by Nice on this new label based in south of France. On A-side: groovy, noisy & dark minimal techno. On B-side: at first a powerful techno breakbeat track with industrial influences. The other title is quieter and evolves in an atmospheric downtempo / hip-hop way. A nice first release. www.edense.com Ludo, 05/05/2004

V/A - Bis Neunzehn - Areal CD 02
Warning: must have! The German label based in Cologne has just published its second CD compilation, this time made of tracks released on Areal EPs #10 to #19. The CD brings 12 minimal techno / house titles with also some electro & electronica experimentations, the whole mixed by Jan-Eric Kaiser. Ben Mono – Universal Unit – Compost 147
Obviously influenced by funk electro, UK artist Ben Mono delivers a brilliant "Universal Unit" track with lots of sexy vocals and synthetic sounds. Coming with the instrumental version and a Sirius Mo remix, the original version wouldn't be complete without an awesome atmospheric and electro rework by none other than Jean Paul Bondy and Justin Maxwell from Volsoc. A must. www.compost-records.com Nexus 6, 04/05/2004

V/A – The 7th Strike – Giant And Dwarf 007
For its seventh release, Giant & Dwarf welcomes new signatures coming from all over Europe. On A-side, UK artist Paul Mac, partner of well known Ben Sims and Mark Williams, opens fire with furious "Outsider", a clubby hardgroove track built upon ethnic instruments like congas or bongos while German Crazy X-Ray associates with Hassan Hokstrom to... read more Nexus 6, 04/05/2004

Samuel L Session – South American Dubs – Phont 34
The Swedish producer is back on Phont with this EP to be used as DJ tools only. Nothing really new with these 4 tracks both linear and driving: massive tech'house sound using groovy basses & many percussions. With its soft house influences, B2 title is probably the hit of this EP. mypage.bluewin.ch/PHONT-PAGE/ Ludo, 03/05/2004
