Jean-Paul Bondy - Cold Reformer [Feat. Carl Finlow] - Compost 198

Current artistic process of Jean-Paul Bondy aka Volum (Krack-tronik, Delikat Recordings) seems to escape from the robotic sound of Volsoc. For a long time associated with his compatriot Justin Maxwell on World Electric, NIT or Hallucination, Californian artist from now on expatriated in Berlin and obviously influenced by German energy, signs today a solo EP that will mark a new step in his career. Teaser of his forthcoming album to be released on Compost in spring 2006, "Cold Reformer" celebrates the US producer's bend towards a downtempo electro music based upon deep New Wave influences. Tinged with analogical tonalities and atmospheric strings, the cut enhances Carl Finlow's (20:20 Vision, Sur Muzique, SCSI-AV, Satamile) own voice and vocals. Dave Gahan and Martin Gore'd better behave themselves. If the original tune is sublime, what to say about the two remixes? Masterly orchestrated by prolific John Tejada, the longplayer version on A side delivers an astonishing rework in a dancefloor 4/4 register full of Sci-Fi effects. Tortured in a wonderful way by fearsome Product.01, the last cover offers some striking synthetic distortions for an unstoppable electro breaks result. A 12'' whose (deserved) success even surprised the author himself. Congratulations!
